Our opinion
The Surrey Hills have a way of embracing properties that resemble them. Tumblers Court is one such property. Behind a double gate, a driveway leads to a central courtyard where a pond and a fountain mark the threshold between this world and another. The house, whose origins date back to the early 19th century, has stood the test of time without losing its way: the double-height Great Room, the reception rooms opening onto the gardens, and the kitchen with its French windows facing the east and west terraces speak of an era that still knew how to build to last. Five bedrooms, a detached cottage, a swimming pool, a tennis court, some 1 hectare of mature gardens, a vegetable patch and lawns: the property has achieved that balance which only truly lived-in places eventually find.
