Our opinion
Just a few kilometres separate the Baroque town of Nardò from the shores of the Ionian Sea. Between the two is the Regional Nature Park of Porto-Selvaggio, famous for its Grotta-del-Cavallo, or cave of the horse, which bears witness to the first homes of European people more than 35,000 years ago. In the midst of this vast area of scrubland, dotted with Aleppo pine trees and prickly pear cacti, the villa dominates a 4,000 m² estate, including a 400 m² enclosed garden. Although awaiting restoration, these premises are an outstanding illustration of the local 17th century architecture. Inside, an elegant vestibule is adorned with colonnades and provides access to vast rooms with vaulted ceilings. The dominating view from the roof terrace looks out over the countryside, a strategic advantage which could also become a tourist asset.
