Description
Our opinion
Weston Patrick has no listed buildings. No castle, no ruins, no date carved in stone that tourist guides would have highlighted. What this hamlet in Hampshire does have is something far rarer: the integrity of a landscape that no one has seen fit to alter. Set against this backdrop, a house that grew from two cottages dating from 1890 has taken on its final form over the generations. The brick, York stone, beams and fireplaces speak of an era that built to last rather than to impress. The gardens, laid out over some 2 ha, follow the same principle: a succession of structured spaces that the seasons inhabit without ever exhausting them. An artist’s studio, a greenhouse, outbuildings: this home is not merely a place to live. It is a place where things are done.
