Our opinion
A Scotsman returns from Egypt with money and builds in Cologny something for which there was no demand. Neo-Tudor style rubs shoulders with Orientalism. The three-storey tower defies Genevan proportions. The Murano chandeliers and Venetian fountains speak a language that Lake Geneva had never heard before. The double marble staircase divides the entrance into two distinct narratives. The stately chapel stands in a place without lords. Four years of renovation have not smoothed out these contradictions. They have reignited them.
