Our opinion

In 1492, after surrendering Granada to the Catholic Monarchs, Boabdil received a fiefdom in the Alpujarras as compensation. The last Nasrid king remained there for little more than a year, but he had been left with the region’s most precious assets: the mountains, the terraces, and the water from the acequias that flows down from the Sierra Nevada to irrigate them. On the outskirts of Órgiva, this cortijo has inherited the same riches. Its terraces of olive and citrus trees benefit from irrigation rights, and the water it receives is stored in a vast underground reservoir. The house, designed less than twenty years ago by a Swiss architect, takes its style from the region’s cortijos, but not their cramped rooms. A small cottage welcomes friends. Boabdil had to leave the Alpujarras. There is no need for you to do the same.
