a characterful house, its outbuildings and wells, set in grounds of some 1,551 m²
Location
In Capuchos, on the hills above Caparica, in the municipality of Almada.
Just a few minutes’ drive from the beaches of the Costa da Caparica,
On the edge of the Arriba Fóssil protected landscape,
A short distance from Pragal railway station, connected to Lisbon by the 25 April Bridge,
Around 25 km from Lisbon Airport.
Our opinion
Around 1770, two master net-makers from opposite ends of Portugal, José Rapaz from Ílhavo and José Gonçalves Bexiga from Olhão, settled with their families on the then-deserted sands of Caparica. The fish carried by the Tagus were so plentiful that the beach, hitherto uninhabited, became a fishing village. Above this shoreline, in Capuchos, a small house has retained the simplicity of those early days. Exposed beams, original terracotta floor tiles and a fireplace for windy evenings: everything you need fits into some 80 m². Surrounding it are approximately 1,551 m² of garden, two outbuildings ready to be converted into a workshop or guest rooms, and two wells that make the property almost self-sufficient.
