Our opinion
This edifice is a typically Portuguese palace, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees that stretch as far as the eye can see, beneath the eternal sun of Portugal’s Alentejo region. The house is called ‘Vila Augusta’, but locals have nicknamed it ‘The Chalet’. It stands out for its theatre-like facade and its colourful architecture. The property has an interesting history: the king would travel through it to reach his neighbouring estate, Vila Viçosa. The main dwelling was renovated by the current owners. Inside, its decor is elegant. The house includes three suites and bathrooms adorned with the famous white marble of Estremoz. From the first floor, a staircase leads to a terrace where you can admire an unrivalled view of the Serra d’Ossa, the property’s 10 hectares of grounds and, on the horizon, Evoramonte Castle. The rest of the grounds are entirely enclosed and include two houses, an old bakehouse and a delightful swimming pool. This is the ideal backdrop for savouring vintages from the grapes cultivated on the property.
