Location
Situated between Rue de l'Université, Rue Jacob and Quai Voltaire, this street is dotted with private mansions and 17th and 18th century townhouses. Just a stone's throw away, the Louvre and the Tuileries Gardens, the Orangerie and Jeu de Paume museums perpetuate the grandeur of the area. Today, the Carré des Antiquaires (antiquaries quarter) and the art galleries of Saint-Germain-des-Prés uphold the privileged atmosphere of the Left Bank, accentuated by the recent opening of the Maison Gainsbourg on Rue de Verneuil.
The district boasts numerous metro stations - Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Mabillon, Musée d'Orsay and Palais-Royal - as well as convenient bus routes.
Description
The restored, full-width flat has a floor area of almost 57m² and faces east and north-west. It enjoys open views over the urban surroundings, green spaces and typically Parisian buildings.
The spacious, light-filled entrance hall serves all the rooms: a bedroom and a kitchen, with windows opening onto a panoramic view of trees and beautiful facades, followed by a refurbished shower room and a reception room. This sitting room, with a floor area of almost 24m², features tall windows overlooking the Parisian skyline and historic facades. The floors are of either straight strip or herringbone oak parquet, and the walls are painted white. Round-arched recesses and bookcases, decorative mouldings and a Louis XVI-style fireplace add a refined touch and comfort to the space.
The flat
The entrance opens into a captivating atmosphere of brightness and calm. The light pouring in from east to west provides uniform clarity to every room in the flat, which is functional, slightly old-fashioned and enjoys picturesque views. In the living room, tall windows with moulded joinery face the historic facades meeting the blue and grey shades of the Parisian sky, while the pastoral setting of the courtyard, planted with bamboo, Virginia creeper and a maple tree, adds to the charm of the kitchen and bedroom. Careful restoration has preserved the mouldings embellishing the white walls and the herringbone or straight strip oak flooring, combined with the more modern light-coloured stoneware tiles. The black marble Louis XVI-style fireplace in the living room further enhances the refined atmosphere.
Our opinion
Close to the Seine, this area of the Left Bank, a hub of Parisian cultural and intellectual life, has preserved the historical imprint and elegance of the “Grand Siècle” (the reign of Louis XIV) and the Age of Enlightenment. From the 17th century onwards, and throughout the 18th century, the aristocrats of the court of Kings Louis XIV and Louis XV had their private mansions built here, which inspired the construction of wealthy townhouses. In the centre of the Carré des Antiquaires, this flat, shrouded in silence and marked by its delicate ornamental features and the authenticity of its noble materials, would suit travellers looking for a pied-à-terre, an investor or even a company wishing to set up its offices here.
