Our opinion

You will find the whole of Provence here. It is warm, bright and welcoming, just as you would expect! The old house is refined, combining the symmetry of its typically 18th-century façade with the generosity of a parkland that provides welcome shade in the summer. The combination of the recently renovated renderings, canal tiles and stone with a carefully thought-out interior design that respects the site has brought Le Jonquier back to life most beautifully. What could be more promising than a stay here where, depending on the time of day, you can laze by the swimming pool, play a few tunes on the piano, sample fine Provençal dishes or set off to discover all of the wonders the region has to offer?

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

We're English and we had been dreaming of buying a château in Provence for a very long time. It is a region that is legendary in France and around the world. We searched long and hard until we found the Château du Jonquier!

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

The château, which celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2025, is set in five hectares of enclosed parkland, with an English-style garden, a forest, a stream and a pond. The building conforms to the classic style of fine 18th century homes. It is an imposing two-storey building with low-arched windows, a four-sloped canal tile roof bordered by a double overhanging cornice, with painted wooden shutters and high ceilings. There are also wrought-iron balconies on the first floor of the main façade. Outside, a private chapel dedicated to Saint-Andiol can accommodate 30 people.

What is its history ?

The château was built between 1725 and 1744 by François II Bernard de Saint-Andéol, a wealthy landowner. On the eve of the French Revolution, the family had already sold most of its possessions. In 1808, Count François Marie-Joseph de Paule de Sobirats and his wife became the owners. Their coats of arms can still be seen on the balcony balustrade: "Non te negabo" - I will not refuse you - and "Fortis et fidelis" - strong and faithful -. After the Second World War, it was bought by Mr Rollin-Pinin, a car part manufacturer in Marseille, then sold in 1976 to the Westphal family, prominent French Protestants. We became the owners in 2025.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

The château is located in a medieval village. It boasts vast outdoor spaces: parkland, a forest, an English-style garden, a swimming pool and several areas suitable for al fresco dining that can accommodate from 12 to 150 people. The 500 m² building has been meticulously restored to combine old-world charm with modern comforts, and includes a fully equipped professional kitchen. A generous vegetable garden is available to our guests and the hen house guarantees fresh eggs every morning.

Places you would personally recommend

Mont Ventoux, which is 1,925 metres high, rises just behind the house. Climbing it is an unforgettable experience, with its snow-white, rocky summit that promises hikers and cyclists breathtaking panoramas. In Mazan, the shop of "Domaine du Plein Panier", a family estate producing cherries, Muscat d'Hambourg table grapes and olive oil. The estate also produces wine, and offers tastings of organic, biodynamic AOC Ventoux wines. "La Colombe" is a Michelin-starred restaurant where the chef creates sublime dishes using local produce. "Mi Candela" prepares divine, generous paellas to order.
