The story begins with a meeting: between an old abandoned farmhouse and two art and architecture enthusiasts. This is how the humble house, once devoted to working the fields, has made a splendid entry into the 21st century without losing any of its soul. Its structure has been lovingly brought back to life and looks as solid as ever, while a new wooden building has been discreetly added to the complex. Contemporary materials have been added that emphasise the beauty of the stone, and the result is clear to see. Set in a lush green landscape that stretches endlessly under an immense sky, the Re.Source farmhouse offers visitors everything they could hope for: tranquillity and harmony, comfort and aesthetics, softness and flavours.
This region chose us rather than us choosing it. Like many people, we spent the 2020 lockdown outside Paris with friends and this is where we ended up, in a place we didn't know, a piece of France lost between the Gard and Ardèche departments. It was after this six-month stay that we decided to move here, to the little-known Gard department at the gateway to the Cévennes, a wild and unspoilt region that is often (wrongfully) overlooked. We love the calm and serenity, the Mediterranean landscapes full of lavender, olive trees and vines, the friendliness of the local people and the richness of its architectural and cultural heritage.
Our farmhouse is a simple building, which is typical of the region: a massive structure of golden stone set into the rock. We have kept the small windows to protect the house from the summer heat and the sometimes bitter cold of the winter, but we have added a touch of modernity by adding large French windows in a few places to let in the light and open the house up to the view of the great outdoors. In addition, the use of concrete and Corten steel, both simple and raw materials, has given the house a new lease of life, anchored in our time and in perfect harmony with the region's stone.
Built in the 18th century as a coaching inn on the road between Avignon and Aubenas, it was converted into a farm when the road was re-routed. The farm was then extended over the centuries and with family alliances to attain its current configuration. Left derelict for many years, the farmhouse was just waiting to be revived and given a good overhaul. We worked with local craftsmen, builders, stone masons, ironmongers, roofers and joiners to restore the building to its former glory and awaken the sleeping beauty.
We are passionate about contemporary art, and particularly photography, and we want to share this passion with our guests. So, in each of our rooms and houses, we have hung our collection of photographs by established artists and young talents alike. The walls of each room are adorned with a host of photos, some of them very large, some of them installations commissioned specially for the site from artists, all with the same aim in mind: to make the space warm and inviting as well as conducive to rest and contemplation. The works of art are there to interact with the surroundings and provide a moment of peace and relaxation. In addition, the farmhouse has several places to relax and unwind: an inner courtyard for breakfasts, an outer courtyard for dinners, a large vaulted dining room, a cinema room, a massage room and a panoramic swimming pool to laze around by.
Discover the village of Voguë, the hanging gardens of Labeaume, the turquoise waters of the Ibie valley, the stone forest of the Bois de Paiolive, the incredible Carthusian monastery at Valbonnes, the gourmet and creative cuisine at "Chez Carabasse", the tasty creations at the "Filles de La Récrée", and the famous antique market of Barjac. And just 10 minutes away there is the Anselm Kiefer Foundation. Anselm Kiefer is a celebrated contemporary artist who settled here over 30 years ago and whose Foundation has just opened. It is a place that is in itself a work of art and the work of a lifetime. If you book well in advance, you can lose yourself in a maze of underground galleries, glass roofs and sheds designed as an ensemble by the artist.
The farmhouse lends itself particularly well to interior design, furniture, household linen and fashion shoots. Teams can access the entire property. There is accommodation for 14 people available on site. There is a hotel right next door. Photos Mister Tripper®
