Our opinion

In the heart of the Perche woodland, la Ferme de la Boétie is located at the end of a small country road, ensuring it peace and tranquillity. The three buildings that form an inner courtyard have retained all of their old charm: low buildings, high roofs with small local tiles, façades rendered in old lime with occasional glimpses of stonework. Only the garden design and the contemporary door and window frames give any hint of recent renovations. Inside, you'll find the same spirit that clearly guided the entire renovation. As much of the original features are preserved as possible and modern comforts have been delicately added, all the while respecting the site and local traditions. The project has been a huge success, transforming this former farmhouse into a real family home, which is easy to live in and which can be reached from Paris in just over two hours.

Property owners’ take the floor

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

The Perche regional nature park has been our base for almost 25 years. We love this region because it is rooted in history, while simultaneously looking towards the future. Not a week goes by without us meeting people who are working hard to rebuild connections and preserve the environmental, architectural and living heritage of the region.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

The buildings are typical of the Perche region, with limestone mixed with Perche sand rendering. The roofs also follow traditional construction, with terracotta tiles and slate on one of the outbuildings. The interior has also been renovated using traditional materials: the terracotta floor tiles have been kept or replaced, while the walls have been stripped of their cement rendering to reveal the original stone and rendering.

What is its history ?

The house is a former 18th-century farmhouse. The main house was restored in 1742. The façade has been modified over time, with elements added in the 19th and 20th centuries. The farm remained unoccupied for over 30 years before being purchased and renovated between 2020 and 2021. The outbuildings have been left as they were and are reminders of the property’s past: old stables and cowsheds, a pigsty, a goat shed and large attics give an idea of how busy this farm was.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

We imagined the house as a cosy family home. With a surface area of 250 m2, you can move around the house very easily and it allows small and large groups to come and share moments in the common areas while still having moments of alone-time in the well-spaced out rooms. The house is full of objects that we have picked up on our travels. Each season has its own charm: in the winter by the fire, in the summer under the shade of the trees or enjoying long evenings with friends around the large outdoor table. In front of the house, the farmyard, which has been laid out as a garden, is perfect for sunbathing and playing games. The house is surrounded by orchards and has a large one-hectare meadow. Bicycles are available for outings or trips to the village.

Places you would personally recommend

The region's markets attract many visitors. You're sure to come across the "Café'ravane", an old converted van that serves excellent coffee and hot chocolate, before setting off to visit the region's market gardeners, cheesemongers, butchers and fishmongers. The flea markets are also a must. If your only have time for one, it should be "Les Brocs du Relais d'Avezé", where you will be welcomed by Yaël and Raymond. In terms of cultural visits, we recommend the Courboyer manor house and the Perche ecomuseum for lovers of ancient buildings and Perche traditions. Finally, when it comes to eating out, don't miss "Oiseau Oiseau", one of the best restaurants in the region.
