My grandparents settled on the Plateau des Mille Étangs in 1989, in the heart of the Vosges saônoises. They were captivated by the beauty of this region, whose landscapes are shaped by a multitude of ponds. They set up their first guesthouse here and, right from the start, the place welcomed fishermen, nature lovers and travellers looking to recharge their batteries. My parents then continued this family venture by taking over a second inn, situated a few hundred metres away, which they completely renovated.
.The buildings that now make up the estate are former farmhouses whose origins date back to the early 17th century, as evidenced by their architecture and the successive alterations they have undergone. Once entirely devoted to farming, the areas that now accommodate guests were formerly used as stables. The cottage has an unusual history: having once been a farm, it subsequently served as a village school and then as a place of worship where services were held. Set in the heart of 40 hectares of countryside, the estate enjoys an exceptionally unspoilt setting.
The property's history is closely linked to that of the Plateau des Mille Étangs. In the past, the lodge and the inn were large farmhouses where several generations of the same family lived under one roof. During the Second World War, the inn’s cellars were used as a refuge for local residents. In fact, we welcomed a guest who had been born there during the war. The estate’s modern history began in 1991 with the creation of a fishing area comprising several ponds, followed by the refurbishment of the lodge to accommodate its first guests. In 2005, the opening of the Auberge des Mille Étangs marked the estate’s transformation into a venue dedicated to hospitality and fine dining.
Set the heart of 40 hectares of preserved nature, the estate is peaceful and quiet. Situated at the end of a small road, the cottage and the inn enjoy a secluded setting that is perfect for relaxation, with direct access to walking trails and four private ponds dedicated to catch-and-release fishing. Depending on your preferences, breakfast or picnic baskets can be arranged, as well as a private chef dining experience directly in your accommodation. For lunch or dinner, guests can also reserve a table at the inn. A professional massage therapist is available by appointment, either directly in your accommodation or outdoors, in the heart of the estate. Riders can stay with their horses thanks to the pasture land, and a transfer service is available from the train stations and airports to make travellers’ arrivals easier.
In Mélisey, “Le Café de la Mairie” serves bistro-style cuisine inspired by the flavours of Franche-Comté. In Gérardmer, “Les Bas-Rupts” showcases the local produce of the Vosges with a gourmet approach. In Girmont-Val-d'Ajol, “L'Auberge de la Ferme Saint-Vallier”, built in 1630, invites you to enjoy a gourmet break in an authentic setting. In Fougerolles, “Les Grandes Distilleries Peureux” have been upholding their renowned expertise in eaux-de-vie and spirits since 1864. In Ronchamp, the Notre-Dame-du-Haut Chapel, a masterpiece by Le Corbusier and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is well worth a visit. Finally, the Plateau des Mille Étangs boasts a network of footpaths, mountain-bike trails, lakes and landscapes that have earned it the nickname “Little Finland of the Vosges”.
The property comprises two accommodation units that can accommodate up to 19 people, as well as an inn and restaurant housed in a 17th-century farmhouse. "Le Cottage", which sleeps four, comprises two bedrooms, a living room with a wood-burning stove and a terrace overlooking the pond. "The Lodge" can accommodate up to 14 people and features a swimming pool, a hot tub, a billiards room, terraces and direct access to the hiking trails.
