Only a taste for adventure and thrills will take you to this far flung part of the world, facing the island of Ushant and the open Celtic Sea. When you finally reach it, the reward is worth it. How delicious the first breath of air filled with the scent of the sea is! Sheltered from the coastal winds, the manor house, adorned in granite and slate with a hint of red, proudly displays its Breton identity. In the heart of the village but yet protected from prying eyes, in the intimate atmosphere of its enclosed garden and the comfort of its carefully appointed rooms, it will be the most delightful of refuges on your return from walks, excursions or exhilarating sea outings. "Beaj vad!”
We wanted both to be closer to part of our family who live in Lanildut and Brest and to use the manor house as a home for our children who live abroad. We fell in love with this 17th-century building, whose unique atmosphere combines the weight of history with an ideal setting, close to the sea and in the heart of a village where everything is within walking distance.
The manor house bears witness to the lifestyles of the "maîtres de barques", wealthy ship-owners and merchant ship captains, who built their beautiful homes from ashlar quarried nearby. Surrounded by a walled garden, it comprises a granite rubble main building with a slate gable roof topped by three large English-style chimneys and pierced by three scalloped dormer windows filled with stained glass. One of the two external doors is surmounted by a canonical pediment. The windows are framed in ashlar granite, some of which is adorned with arched mouldings. A veranda and former outbuildings are set back at right-angles, and there are a wing and a lean-to at the rear of the dwelling.
The manor house was built in 1630 by Tanguy Mol de Kerjean, Lord of Rumorvan and a wealthy shipowner. At the time, he could watch over his boats in the port of Lanildut from his residence. In 1738, a judicial sale transferred the property from Tanguy-Gabriel Mol de Rumorvan to Joseph Torriec de Bassemaison de Camaret, then to the Bazil family and the Poncelin de Raucourt family. Today, this area is very residential and steeped in history. In the past, the notables lived together in their beautiful houses surrounded by high walls, while the tradesmen and women of modest means lived in simpler dwellings. We acquired this property in 2024.
The property is located in a hamlet 200 metres' walk from the port and shops in Lanildut. Its historic walled garden offers several relaxation areas where you can rest, read or simply enjoy the sunshine. The property has a heated and secure swimming pool. Bicycles are available for our guests to explore the surrounding countryside at their own pace.
The GR34 runs alongside the manor house, making it a great place to walk or cycle. Boats leave daily for Molène and Ushant from Lanildut, where you can hire bicycles and have lunch at the "Duchesse Anne". Sea excursions are also available to observe seals and dolphins. In Argenton, "Le Fournil du Port" serves excellent pastries and fougasses! In Porspoder, the "Biscuiterie des Abers" makes the best kouign-amann and "Le Chenal", facing the Ponant islands, is a great place to enjoy tapas at sunset. "Le Gris", an oyster bar in Lilia, ideally situated along the Castel Ac'h beach, facing the sea and just a stone's throw from the lighthouse on the Ile Vierge. The fantastic Saturday morning market in Saint-Renan!
