The general appearance of the property is immediately imposing, much like the founders who were no doubt seeking to unite the signs of great Parisian social success with a certain provincial art of living. The recent renovation has restored all of the private mansion's lustre by adding the requirements of modern comfort to the many original features which have been preserved since the property's construction. In keeping with the slate roof, the interior offers a symphony of grey that surrounds the rooms and guides visitors through their discovery of the house. From the village, the surrounding Percheron countryside has everything a city dweller could hope for without feeling too isolated in the middle of nature.
Because Perche has everything I was looking for! An authentic, peaceful and green countryside, beautiful forests, rivers and ponds, small towns of character, picturesque villages, and local farmers' markets. It is a real change of scenery just an hour and a half from Paris.
The property consists of a mansion and a cottage. From the street, after passing through the imposing entrance gate, the mansion's main courtyard unfolds and stops at the front steps. An imposing canopy frames the front door. The awning, a veritable glass cloak underpinned by steel, is dressed in volutes that rise towards the sky, allowing rainwater to be directed towards the side gutters which are connected to downspout columns. The building is arranged on a rectangular plan of six hundred square metres and comprises four floors, one of which is an attic floor and another of which is the basement. It is topped with a slate roof, pierced with skylights, and lined with bull's eye windows. Under the cornice on the second floor, the windows are surmounted by pediments carved directly into the stone. Inside, the volumes are spacious, fireplaces feature in each of the rooms, the floors are parqueted with oak, and the ceilings are decorated with cornices.
This century-old house was built between 1902 and 1908 by a Parisian couple, Achille Cornu and his wife, who came to settle in the region. The property remained in this family until 1943, when it passed into the hands of Mr Mérignac, a notable of the village. The Soret family, wealthy landowners in Perche, acquired it after the Second World War in 1947 and kept it for seventy-three years before I became the proud owner.
Calm and absolute disconnection in the heart of a regional natural park, an environment for lovers of authenticity and nature, a veritable green paradise in which to unwind and rediscover the sweetness of life, punctuated with hiking, biking and horse riding. With a surface area of 600m², large living rooms and a generous sleeping capacity, the mansion is also a place to share and to celebrate moments of life with family and friends. Equipped with a gym, a sauna and a hammam, there are also private spaces for everyone. A large, sunny veranda boasts beautiful unobstructed views for moments of reading or contemplation. A fish pond is accessible just behind the house. The cottage, located in the garden, has two bedrooms and can be rented with the mansion or separately.
The Perche forests are among the most prestigious in France. 500 plant species and 75 bird species can be observed there. The national forest of Perche and La Trappe is the closest to the house. The Perche hills circuit (a total of 220km divided into eight walking stages of 23 to 30 km or four mountain bike stages) covers the most emblematic paths of the Regional Park and crosses several towns rich in built heritage. The Véloscénie, a 450km cycle route, connects Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel and crosses the Perche for more than 83 km, alternating between cycle routes and greenways. In Pin-la-Garenne, La Croix d'Or restaurant has been a renowned establishment for more than one hundred and thirty years; it once served as a coaching inn. The Notre-Dame de Montligeon basilica, a neo-Gothic religious building dating from the beginning of the 20th century, is a surprising and unexpected attraction in a small village.
