to vast, tree-lined grounds. Away from the busy roads and the noise of the crowds, the place feels as if it has remained untouched by the changes that have taken place along the Mediterranean coast. Over the years, and even more so recently, the Mas des Bonnettes and its five houses have come to be regarded as one of those rare places where the design and comfort are a perfect match for the site’s exceptional natural beauty. To see this for yourself, simply wander from room to room, take in the view stretching as far as the eye can see from a window, breathe in the scents wafting up from the garden, and then follow a path down to the sea, which glistens at your feet. Could you ask for anything better?
It was the beauty of this region that won us over. The unspoilt coastline, with its very few buildings, captivated us with its light, vegetation and the room left for nature to abound. We found a rare balance at Le Pradet: a genuine village, which is bustling all year round, with beaches within walking distance, a rugged coastline and vast natural spaces, whilst still being close to Toulon and Hyères. When we first came across this farmhouse, we were immediately captivated by the views – particularly of the sea and Mont Coudon – but also by the four hectares of countryside surrounding the property.
The estate covers four hectares of land overlooking the sea, just a stone’s throw from the unspoilt beaches of Le Pradet. It comprises five separate houses, including a former Provençal farmhouse and four annexes arranged around the gardens and the swimming pool. We wanted to preserve its character and architecture whilst enhancing its comfort and making it more user-friendly. The original small rooms and corridors were redesigned to create a large room measuring 120 m², made possible by modern construction techniques. Bathed in natural light, this space opens out onto terraces with direct views of the surrounding countryside. It now boasts spacious rooms and five-metre-high ceilings in some rooms. We therefore sought to combine the traditional character of the farmhouse with contemporary, understated fittings, whilst ensuring it never lost its Provençal identity.
We don’t know the exact date of its construction, but the farmhouse already appeared in the Napoleonic land registers. It was built up over time in stages: the main house, built nearly two centuries ago, was followed by a second wing and, later, the library, one of the most distinctive rooms on the estate. When we bought the property about ten years ago, it belonged to a 106-year-old lady who had lived there all her life. She helped to give it the deeply authentic and welcoming feel that touched us from the beginning. Beyond its architecture, it is this human history that gives the farmhouse its soul today.
We want to offer a sense of freedom above all: to spend time together whilst still having your own space and privacy. The estate can accommodate up to 22 people in the main house and several self-contained cottages. Facilities include a 130 m² infinity pool, a swim spa heated all year round, a tennis court, a boules court, table tennis and a play area. We also have a library with a mezzanine, ideal for both relaxing and holding seminars. Our concierge service can organise meals, private chefs, tastings, massages, yoga, Pilates, boat trips or transfers. A catamaran is also available for hire. The service includes three weekly cleaning visits, with the option of a daily clean on request.
Everything here is easy to explore on foot or by bike, with a cycle path nearby. We particularly like the beaches at Les Bonnettes, Monaco and La Garonne, as well as “Pin de Galle”, a small former fishing village. The coastal path starts from the property and follows the coast as far as Colle Noire, making for a lovely walk. There is a market on Fridays in Le Pradet, just ten minutes away. When it comes to eating out, we particularly like “L’Essentiel”, “Le 111”, “L’Aventure” and “Ma Cantine”. As for the seaside, we recommend boat trips to the port of Hyères and the Îles d’Or. For wine lovers, the nearby “La Navicelle” and “Clos Cibonne” estates offer some wonderful discoveries.
