The farmhouse blends into the landscape on the hillside, where the vegetation is in a constant battle with the rock and seeps into the smallest crevice and takes root. Made of the same stone, fashioned in the same colours, it seems to be at one with the surrounding nature with its strong personality, rugged, yet mineral and gentle at the same time, bursting with sunshine, intoxicating fragrances and rocked by the powerful rhythm of the cicadas. Inside, the rooms are pristine white, enhanced by a few hints of bright colour and tempered by the softness of old wood and terracotta. This is Provence, where you can enjoy the silence of siestas, long evenings under the woven straw awning and excursions along the paths around.
I'm a winemaker, independent, determined and committed heart and soul to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. I'm from Provence and I love the region. Why Oppède-le-Vieux? This village is the quintessence of the Luberon. The light is exceptional and the gentle way of life is remarkable.
The building is nestled in a valley in the middle of four hectares of the Luberon National Park. With its simple, rectangular architecture, it spans two floors and has an extension. The roof is covered in Roman tiles and the outside walls are made of jointed Luberon quarry stone.
This 17th-century farmhouse belonged to stone masons from the Luberon. In Vaucluse, the stone from these numerous quarries is limestone containing shells dating back to the Miocene era, over 20 million years ago, when it was formed in what was originally a warm sea. My late husband gave me this house as a gift.
A unique natural environment! The farmhouse is in Oppède-le-Vieux, a magnificent ancient village perched on the foothills of the Luberon, a Regional Nature Park that has been awarded the Unesco Global Geopark label and a starting point for superb walks. We offer our guests a bottle of olive oil from Domaine de Fontbonau in the Nyons region, as well as honey from the same estate.
"Le Sanglier Paresseux" is a gourmet restaurant in Caseneuve a village which has remained authentic. The organic bakery "Le pain de Proust" in the village of Oppède sells exceptional bread. The restaurants "La Terrasse" and "La Bartavelle" in the marvellous village of Goult are not to be missed, as is the light manufacturer Mathieu in Gargas. A few secret gems nearby: "L'Hôtel d'Agar" in Cavaillon, the cellars of the Palais Saint-Firmin in Gordes. The Musée de l'Huile d'Olive (Olive Oil Museum) on the La Royère olive-growing and wine-producing estate.
