A late 19th-century villa set in vast wooded
parkland between Rome and Florence in Italy

Our opinion

A tall silhouette topped with Roman tiles, a shady, fragrant garden, a swimming pool, a pergola to shelter from the sun, and spacious rooms with warm, refined décor. A veritable condensation of the Italian art of living, La Trinità offers everything you could hope for from a holiday in this land blessed by the gods. While nature is particularly generous here, humans have created so many marvels that it seems impossible to see them all in one lifetime. To experience just a little taste of this, stop off here to sample the famous "dolce vita", and then set off to discover this little-known region of Tuscia, north of Rome.

Property owners’ take the floor

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

Between 1872 and 1874, our great-grandfather and his brother bought the Santa Trinità scrubland and part of the area known as Querce d'Orlando (Orlando Oaks), mentioned on the Peutinger Table - a copy made around 1265 by the monks of Colmar of a Roman map made around 350 showing the main roads and towns of the Roman Empire. They then set about planting trees in the grounds, and although no drawings or maps have survived, it is certain that they planted the entire parkland with a million pine trees between 1894 and 1895, after which they built the villa. We are the heirs to this magnificent heritage.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

The house is at the centre of an archaeological zone, as evidenced by the remains of a Roman wall planted in the garden and the ancient Roman road located a little further along the property. In the parkland, a magnificent marble sarcophagus of the Seasons or Ghirlande (120 AD) was discovered inside a mausoleum in 1889. The lid depicts scenes from the myth of Theseus and Ariadne and the seasons. It is now kept at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The villa is surrounded by 20 hectares of parkland, with a sumptuous 200-year-old cedar tree that stands proudly in front of the villa entrance. The original features have been preserved, including the typical terracotta floors and scented wooden ceilings, while the antique furniture creates a warm and cosy atmosphere.

What is its history ?

Villa La Trinità is a manor house dating back to 1889, built on the remains of an earlier historic building and immersed in the heart of private parkland dotted with ancient oaks, cedars and pines, as well as 200 hazelnut and olive trees planted on the estate. In 1892, my great-grandfather extended it to its current form. Our family has scrupulously restored the grounds and the building to provide modern-day comforts while preserving its history. We have drawn on our grandfather's sensitivity and inspiration with which he perpetuated our family identity throughout the estate, and we are now the guardians of this tradition that we will pass on to our children.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

An exclusive retreat, just 45 minutes from Rome, offering the privacy of a private residence in historic surroundings. The estate is nestled between the Roman Via Cassia and the Via Francigena (a famous archaeological area), in a region between Tuscany and Rome known as "Northern Lazio" or "Tuscia", the secret jewel of central Italy. The swimming pool with its Roman-style staircase, the large solarium, the solar shower and the lawns are fenced off for children's safety. We offer a wide range of activities, including cookery classes, yoga, ayurvedic massages, wine and oil tasting, guided tours, sports activities and babysitting. Airport transfers.

Places you would personally recommend

The Terme dei Papi in Viterbo. The large, 2000 m2 pool is filled with thermal water from the Bullicame spring, from which it emerges at 58°C. The best wines from Tuscia can be tasted by following the "Strada dei Vini dell'Alta Tuscia", which includes the following producers: San Giovenale, Trappolini, Le Lase, Tenuta Ronci di Nepi, Paolo e Noemia D'Amico, Sergio Mottura, Falesco, Occhipinti, Le Coste, Tenuta Sant'Isidoro. Must-see towns and villages such as Viterbo, Orvieto, Tuscania and Cività di Bagnoregio. Traces of Etruscan civilisation are very present, with the necropolises of Tarquinia and Cerveteri being the best known. The gardens of Villa Lante, Castello Ruspoli Vignanello, the monster garden at Bomarzo and the gardens at Caprarola. Tuscia is also famous for its lakes: Lago di Bracciano, Lago di Bolsena and the delightful and little-known Lago di Vico.
