A former farm hamlet transformed into
four guest houses on the Ile de Ré

Our opinion

"Ré la blanche" never ceases to astonish. With its climate, warm waters, sandy golden beaches, dunes and forests, white houses lined with brightly coloured flowers it is an enchanting setting. Of course, when summer comes, it attracts many visitors, but it has so much to offer that in some places it can feel like you are alone on your own tiny island. This former hamlet, which is now guest houses, is one of those secret magical places that only Ré has the key to. The four houses, united like sisters and yet each different in their own way, form a little world of their own. There is nothing to distinguish them from their neighbours outside, but when you see how they have been so carefully designed and built inside, you will never want to leave. This is where your happy holiday begins.

Property owners’ take the floor

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

We are a couple of passionate entrepreneurs. Through this guest house project, we wanted to spread our hospitality, our attachment to the Ile de Ré and our passion for art, crafts, design and gastronomy. Bordered by a multi-faceted coastline, the Ile de Ré is as seductive as it is inspiring, thanks in particular to the experiences you can have and the local delicacies that awaken the senses. I say, "A land of artists, inspired by the winds. A place to laze around, where slow life becomes an art of living. An invitation to let go and escape.”

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

The house is located in the village between the dunes and the marshes, just five minutes from the ocean and a stone's throw from the town centre. It consists of four houses in typical Ile de Ré village architectural style; that is, a white facade bathed in sunlight and a very slightly sloping roof covered with terracotta tiles. The layout of the hamlet separates the houses and their gardens without partitioning them to allow for individual or complete privacy. A wine storehouse has been completely refurbished and conceals a swimming pool and a cool oasis behind it. The refurbishment focused on rethinking the spaces, simplifying the volumes and making the most of the existing features to bring the local character back to life while adding modern comforts.

What is its history ?

The project was launched in 2017 when we bought a farm building, a former wine storehouse and a plot of land. Since the 19th century, the walls of these buildings have soaked up the sea breeze and the Charente sun, and have been imbibed with the passing of the seasons, the stories of life and the lightness typical of the Ile of Ré art of living. We completely renovated this former farming hamlet, set in a natural environment that feels like you are hidden from the rest of the world. It can now be a family home, a holiday home, a retreat or a refuge to take a break from daily life. Our homes provide an inspiring and inventive base for making memories and carrying forward a colourful history.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

Between the dunes and the forest, number 322 features four lively homes with elegant, distinguished personalities. You'll feel right at home here for a summer, a relaxing break or a weekend getaway. Available to rent as individual guest rooms or as a complete guest house, the four residences are interconnected so you can tailor your stay to suit your needs, and each has a concierge service available throughout your stay. Here, celebrate every moment, savour a gentle way of life and regional dishes with an entirely local meal offering, let your imagination run free, cook in the island light, bask in the softness of the surroundings and recharge your batteries with a made-to-measure programme devised by the owners.

Places you would personally recommend

Bois-Plage, for a morning coffee at the market. For organic, local or regional produce go to "RéUnis" producers. "Just" seafood restaurant at the Whale Lighthouse. "Les Assoiffés" our super wine merchant at the market or in his shop in Bois-Plage. For oysters, "Ré Ostréa" is one of our favourite cabins, facing the ocean. "Le Bistrot du Marin" for lunch or dinner on the port of Saint-Martin, relaxed atmosphere, bistro-style cuisine. Pain Laurent L'Hénaff's organic, traditional sourdough bread is quite simply the best on the island.
