Our opinion

Surrounded by its semi-circular grounds, the Mezo is now a top-class estate entirely dedicated to holidays and events. The centrepiece of the site, the 18th-century chateau, surrounded by its vast outbuildings, has retained its original appearance despite the professional alterations that have been made to create a host of accommodation and reception areas, all decorated with refinement. Modern lodges, safari tents, yurts, converted greenhouses: the owners' creativity knows no bounds. Whether you are planning a wedding, a seminar, a holiday break or a romantic dinner, there is something for everyone here, in a country setting just a few minutes from the ocean.

Property owners’ take the floor

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

Originally from the north of France and the Basque country, we have been based in Brittany since 2004. I was an entrepreneur for many years and my wife held a number of senior banking positions. We then both worked in property development for several years before making one of our dreams come true: to open and manage an exceptional venue in a natural environment, dedicated to events, hotels and well-being. In 2019, we fell in love with this area, so it was an obvious choice for us. We spent three years restoring it and through this project a new passion was born.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

Set in 25 hectares of greenery, the chateau stands at the end of a kilometre-long driveway. The main dwelling, topped by a pavilion roof, is surrounded by farmhouses and outbuildings. Inside, we have preserved as much as possible of the existing features, in particular the cornices, mouldings, frescoes and the main staircase, whose original structure we have largely retained. The large 19th-century greenhouse is now dedicated to receptions and catering. On either side of the chateau, the former stables have been converted into farmhouses. The former farm sheds are now used for events and concerts. Our estate has opened up to more unusual forms of accommodation, with yurts and lodges in stark contrast to the historic architecture.

What is its history ?

The chateau was built in the second half of the 18th century on the foundations of an ancient manor house mentioned in 1427 in the Duchy of Brittany, part of ancient Armorique. In the 19th century, several buildings were added to the estate: the outbuildings, the coach house and the greenhouse. Before its revival, the property belonged to the family of Bruno Crémer, best known for playing the character of Inspector Maigret in the television series of the same name from 1991 to 2005. The actor Bruno Crémer often came here when he was filming. The estate's grounds, which were once open to the public, have long been a popular place for the people of Plérin to take a stroll. Surrounded by 25 hectares of unspoilt nature, the estate has been designed as a place to live, share and enjoy.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

It has a night club and a gourmet restaurant, “La Table Mezo”. It has a tennis, volleyball and football pitch, ping-pong tables and pool tables. There are a number of holiday options on offer, including concert breaks, gourmet breaks with Michelin-starred chefs, yoga or pilates retreats, tennis or golf competitions and wellness breaks. Hotels & Lodges magazine ranked the estate as the sixth most beautiful hotel in the world in the Design category.

Places you would personally recommend

The Gulf of Morbihan boasts a number of emblematic sites, including the Pointe d'Arradon and the coastal path. The Île-aux-Moines can be reached from the landing stage, just five minutes from the estate. In Arradon, “Vivant”, a gourmet restaurant offering “living” cuisine, reflected in the origin and quality of the produce - short transport circuits and mainly organic, the choice of producers and working methods - fermentations, kefir, sourdough, etc.) In Baden, "La chaumière de Pomper", a Michelin-starred crêperie, specialises in serving "Kraz" crêpes, i.e. thin, crispy pancakes. In Arradon, Yvonnick Jégat continues the family's oyster-farming expertise, founded in 1925. His oysters, which have won several medals, can be enjoyed at his oyster farm or at the market on Sunday mornings. "Amande et Caramel", a tearoom and traditional biscuit factory, serves and sells more than 35 different types of homemade biscuits.
