Concerts

A private concert of baroque music on a 17th century harpsichord can be organised through the owner.

Our opinion

Not even a lifetime would suffice to discover all the wonders of Rome. Endless architectural treasures spanning the centuries since ancient times and a way of life that endlessly turns streets and squares into open air lounges buzzing with happy chatter. It is therefore something of a rare privilege to stay in one of its palaces and lose yourself in the very heart of the city, on a meander of the Tiber not far from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Staying at Palazzo Floridi is a real lesson in architecture and the fine arts, the eye will be trained to contemplate trompe l'oeil decorations, high coffered ceilings and Baroque arabesques. Outside, guests can enjoy a coffee on the cobblestone street before letting themselves be carried away by the subtle feeling of being in a home away from home. Afterall, if "marble created Rome, it also contains the memory of man" as artist Giuseppe Penone once rightly said.

Property owners’ take the floor

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

I have always been passionate about Rome - ancient Rome, that of the Renaissance and Baroque Rome. How can one not be overwhelmed by so much beauty? No matter the season or the time of day, it never ceases to surprise me. It is also a human-sized capital, made up of villages and the centre of all Italian roads, halfway between Naples and Florence. A gateway to the great south, full of life and sun.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

The palace is located less than one hundred metres from Rome's most beautiful square, the Piazza Navona. It is accessible by a monumental, protruding stone porch that leads to an elegant courtyard lined with ancient columns. On the top floor, lion heads adorn the facade.

What is its history ?

The palace was built in the 16th century by a patrician family, the Floridis, presumably for a cardinal. It is on one of the most typical and endearing streets of Rome, the via del Governo Vecchio, where the great papal processions from Quirinal to St. Pierre once passed. Today, it is a street lined with restaurants, antique shops and charming boutiques in the beating heart of the eternal city.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

We offer a private palace floor decorated with original works of art from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Guests have access to a large private terrace overlooking the dome of the Santa Agnese church of Piazza Navona. We also offer a tour of the private apartments with an important collection on the 18th century ways of life.

Places you would personally recommend

At number 19 on our street, Tonino's is a very a popular trattoria with the locals and offers simple and delicious family cuisine. Pier Luigi, at 144 Piazza de Ricci, is a delicious and elegant fish restaurant with a large terrace.
